5th graders! It's time for a short quiz. We have learned about the Civil War in class and in our homework. Now it is time to test what you have learned. This is a short simple quiz that will help me understand what you have learned in this unit. There is one question that asks or a short answer, a couple that are multiple choice and some that are mark all the correct answers.

"EDEL 2200: (2) (Andrea Draudt) (Science Rocks YouTube Project)"

YouTube project.

I created this list of you tube videos all addressing 4th grade science standards 1 and 2. I did this so that I would ave many different ways of explaining these science concepts to my future 4th graders. I believe that it is good to give students some different ways of learning, besides listening to the teacher.

4th Grade Science Standards 1 and 3

Standard 1
Students will understand that water changes state as it moves through the water cycle.
Objective 1: Describe the relationship between heat energy, evaporation and condensation of water on Earth Identify the sun as the source of energy that evaporates water from the surface of Earth. Objective 2: Describe the water cycle. Locate examples of evaporation and condensation in the water cycle (e.g., water evaporates when heated and clouds or dew forms when vapor is cooled). Describe the processes of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation as they relate to the water cycle. Students will understand that the elements of weather can be observed, measured, and recorded to make predictions and determine simple weather patterns.

Standard 3
Students will understand the basic properties of rocks, the processes involved in the formation of soils, and the needs of plants provided by soil. Objective 1: Identify basic properties of minerals and rocks. Describe the differences between minerals and rocks.

Education Technology Standard 8
Use technology resources (e.g., calculators, data collection probes, videos, educational software) for problem-solving, self-directed learning, and extended learning activities.

Bill Nye Water Cycle
Bill Nye Teaches us about condensation and then creates a cloud in a bottle

Magic School Bus Water Cycle
Here is an episode of the Magic school bus all about the process of the water cycle and  it goes through precipitation condensation and evaporation.

Matter Song
This song addresses what matter is and the 3 properties mattes had. Liquid, solid and gas. This is such a fun way to help kids learn about matter. I also feel that a song tends to help kids learn and memorize information.

Cartoon water cycle
A great explanation of the water cycle that is on a 4th grade level.

Weathering and erosion
This video is perfect for a 4th grader because it is fun, but also teaches about erosion and weathering so well. It teaches simply but gives us all the basic information we need.

Weathering and erosion experiment
I love this video because it is a great visual aid for kids to really see the difference between erosion and weathering. Visual aids are always beneficial.

Utah Fossils
I love this video because I think it really helps kids see all the fossils and dinosaurs in our own state.

Dinosaur Fossils
I am excited about this video. It address how we learned about dinosaur fossils, and teaches us how fossils can teach us about the animal or reptile the fossil is from. Fossils come from many things, such as bones, plants, even feces.

Bill Nye Fossils
This is a full episode of Bill Nye, it teaches about fossils, how they are formed and what they are. I feel like Bill Nye is such a fun way to help kids learn, because I know I loved watching Bill Nye.

Paleontology
The video address what paleontology and also shows us different fossils and what they each are and what they teach us.

What are fossils and how do they form
A great video that teaches why fossils are important, such as they tell us about what the earth used to be like 1000' of years ago and what plants and animals lived on the earth. The video also addresses how fossils are formed.

What are rocks and minerals
This video explains how we use rocks in everyday life and how we are surrounded by rocks, because rocks are made from many different materials. It address what rocks and minerals are and the differences.

Minerals
This video breaks down what minerals are and is all about minerals. It gives many examples of what minerals are and they are examples that we use in our daily life.

Rocks and Soil
This video addresses the 3 types, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. The video also addresses soil and what it is. This is a Bill Nye video, I love his videos they really are a great and fun way for kids to learn.

Magic school bus on Rocks
Mrs Frizzle takes her class on a field trip where they learn about rocks and minerals. A fun but educational video to teach kids about different types of rocks.

EDEL 2200: (2) (Andrea Draudt) (Civil War Mind Map Project)

Civil War mind map

I used the Bubbl.us tool to create a mind map of how I would teach the Civil War to my 5th graders. This tool was so useful and will help me prepare lessons and units when I am a teacher. This is a wonderful way to organize my thoughts, the core standards and order of how to teach to my future students.

5th Grade Social Studies Standard 4
Students will understand that the 19th century was a time of incredible change for the United States, including geographic expansion, constitutional crisis, and economic growth. Objective 3: Evaluate the course of events of the Civil War and its impact both immediate and long-term.

Education Technology Standard 4
Use general purpose productivity tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, to re mediate skill deficits, and to facilitate learning throughout the curriculum.

EDEL 2200: (2) (Andrea Draudt) (Water Cycle ThingLink Project)"

Thing Link

Alright 4th graders! Your homework for tonight is to  clink on the link below. This will bring you to a ThingLink Presentation I created on the Water Cycle. Explore the picture and click on the dots. These dots will teach you about different parts of the water cycle. There are videos and activities for you to do with each dot you click on.

4th Grade Science Standard 1 Students will understand that water changes state as it moves through the water cycle. Objective 1
Describe the relationship between heat energy, evaporation and condensation of water on Earth. Objective 2 Describe the water cycle.

Education Technology Standard 8
Use technology resources (e.g., calculators, data collection probes, videos, educational software) for problem-solving, self-directed learning, and extended learning activities.

EDEL 2200: (2) (Andrea Draudt) (1st grade Math)

Pintrest

I chose to use the tool Pintrest. I created a Pintrest Board centered on 1st grade Math. It addresses all the 1st grade math standards. Pintrest is a wonderful tool to find tons of ideas and ways to teach. I chose 1st grade math and found so many worksheets and activities for my future 1st graders.

1st grade Math Standard
Represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction. Understand and apply properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction. Extend the counting sequence.

Education Technology Standard 8
Use technology resources (e.g., calculators, data collection probes, videos, educational software) for problem-solving, self-directed learning, and extended learning activities.

(EDEL 2200: (2) (Andrea Draudt) (Conlonization in America)

How did America even form? There is a question. It is something we all need to know because after all we all live here now. We have already talked about Native Americans in class, and so now we are going to talk about how others arrived in America. Here is a time line presentation about colonization in America.
I bet you will learn a lot. Write down 3 things you found interesting and turn them into me in class tomorrow morning.
Click on the link above the picture to start the adventure!

Social Studies 5th Grade Standard 1
Students will understand how the exploration and colonization of North America transformed human history. Objective 1 Describe and explain the growth and development of the early American colonies. Analyze contributions of American Indian people to the colonial settlements.
Objective 2 Assess the global impact of cultural and economic diffusion as a result of colonization.Describe the cultural and economic impacts that occurred as a result of trade between North America and other markets (e.g., arts, language, ideas, the beginning and expansion of the slave trade, new agricultural markets). Objective 3 Distinguish between the rights and responsibilities held by different groups of people during the colonial period. Compare the varying degrees of freedom held by different groups (e.g. American Indians, landowners, women, indentured servants, enslaved people).

Students! We are trying something new today that I am very excited about. I have created a story for you to read online through Story Bird. It is about 2 brothers who end up going to space. I want you to pay attention to what they learn. I also want you to think about question you might have about space, and we will talk about your questions in class!
Click on the link right about the rocket picture to start the story.
